Over one hundred students and colleagues from Newcastle College, Newcastle College University Centre and Newcastle Sixth Form College came together to create a sea of blue at this year's Great North 10K, raising money for the College's charity partner, the Chloe & Liam Together Forever Trust.
The College's first-ever Blue Wave saw runners and walkers take to the streets of Newcastle wearing specially designed blue t-shirts created by Newcastle College Graphic Design student Frank Taylor, while colleagues volunteered throughout the event to support participants and spectators.
The event formed part of the College's wider commitment to promoting wellbeing, community and teamwork, while raising vital funds and awareness for the Chloe & Liam Together Forever Trust, which supports young people and families across the North East.
Principal Jon Ridley officially started the Blue Wave by ringing the AJ Bell start bell and cheered our runners on as they began the challenge.
Jon Ridley, Principal of Newcastle College, said:
"The Blue Wave was about much more than completing a 10K. It was about coming together as one college community and supporting a charity that makes a real difference to young people across our region.
"Seeing so many students and colleagues wearing Frank's brilliant design and taking part together created a fantastic atmosphere. Whether people were running, walking, volunteering or cheering others on, everyone played their part. Thank you to everyone who made our first Blue Wave such a success."
Mark Carton, Director of College Services and Resources at Newcastle Sixth Form College, who led the organisation of the event, said:
"It was fantastic to see the Blue Wave come to life after months of planning. The enthusiasm from colleagues and students across our colleges was incredible and created a real sense of community throughout the day.
"The event showed what can be achieved when people come together behind a shared purpose. We'd like to thank everyone who took part, volunteered or supported the Blue Wave, and of course the Chloe & Liam Together Forever Trust for the important work they continue to do across our region."
The Blue Wave marked Newcastle College's first involvement in the Great North 10K, bringing together colleagues and students while supporting causes that make a positive difference across the North East.
