Nearly 1,000 students celebrated the successful completion of their studies as Newcastle College University Centre (NCUC) hosted its biggest-ever graduation ceremonies at Newcastle Civic Centre.
Across two days of celebrations on 9 and 10 July, graduates crossed the stage in front of family, friends, lecturers and supporters to receive qualifications ranging from Foundation Degrees and Bachelor's Degrees to Master's Degrees, marking the culmination of years of dedication, determination and hard work.
The record-breaking ceremonies also welcomed singer and performer Joe McElderry as Guest of Honour during Friday's celebrations. A former Newcastle College student and Patron of the College's Performance Academy, Joe reflected on his own journey as he addressed graduates before becoming the first person to receive an Honorary Degree from Newcastle College University Centre.
Throughout the two days, graduates heard inspiring reflections from guest speakers representing a wide range of industries and professions, including renowned hairstylist Andrew Barton, business leader Dame Irene Hays, Tyneside Cinema CEO Nic Greenan, Alex King from the Civil Aviation Authority, and health leader Joanna Vintis.
Current students also shared their own journeys with those in attendance. Qurat-ul-ain Desai, Conor Allen, Emma Vasey, Morgan Pearce, Sara Chagas and Khadija Noor Rafi each reflected on the challenges they had overcome, the friendships they had built and the opportunities created through their time at Newcastle College University Centre.
Jon Ridley, Principal of Newcastle College and Executive Lead for Higher Education across NCG, said: “Graduation is one of my favourite days in the College calendar because it gives us the opportunity to stop and celebrate. It brings together graduates, families, friends and colleagues to recognise an important achievement and everything it has taken to reach this moment.
“Watching almost 1,000 graduates cross the stage over the two days was a reminder of the talent, determination and ambition that exists across Newcastle College University Centre. Behind every graduate is a team, and this was a celebration of everyone who has played a part in that success. Congratulations to the Class of 2026, and I wish every one of our graduates the very best for the future.”
Alan Fenton, Deputy Principal at Newcastle College, hosted all six ceremonies alongside Jon Ridley and Director of Higher Education Maria Gibson, welcoming graduates and their guests as they celebrated the achievements of the Class of 2026.
Students from NCG's Carlisle College also graduated at one of the ceremonies on Friday.
Graduates from disciplines including Engineering, Health, Business, Education, Creative Industries, Digital Technologies and the Arts joined thousands of Newcastle College University Centre alumni who have progressed into successful careers across the North East, the UK and beyond.
