ABOUT THE SUBJECT
If you’re a technical and methodical thinker with a passion for the energy sector, our Energy degrees will help you build the foundation for a successful career. Developed in collaboration with key industry partners - including Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Royal IHC, Subsea North East and Port Training Services - our programmes allow you to experience energy engineering in a real working environment.
Based at our purpose-built Energy Academy, you’ll train using industry-standard facilities, including a fully operational wind turbine, while developing your knowledge of design, subsea equipment, hydraulics, electrics, mechanics, and maintenance. With hands-on learning and strong industry links, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to thrive in this fast-growing sector.

In September 2027 we’re opening a second facility as part of our Energy Academy. Within this brand new, dedicated site you’ll have access to even more specialist training equipment, industry-standard facilities and opportunities to learn the skills employers are looking for, including training in emerging areas such as carbon capture, hydrogen and battery storage!

Investing in You
In 2022, we spent part of a £2million investment from the Office for Students (OfS) on leading-edge teaching facilities in our Energy Academy, including:

An electric vehicle and new EV charge points

A brand new wind turbine training nacelle

An autonomous inspection robot to support inspection of wind turbine towers and blades at height

Industrial drone to support inspection of wind turbine towers and blades at height

Subsea inspection ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) to support inspection of subsea wind structures
We have since been awarded a further £6million, and over the next three years we will be creating a dedicated Construction, Engineering and Energy Building, which will include three high-spec CAD/BIM suites.
